John Barry is a writer and teacher. I have worked for over fifteen years, teaching students on the college and high school level, tutoring, and mentoring college students. I am also a freelance writer with over 300 bylines, in the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Baltimore City Paper, American Theatre Magazine, Baltimore Style, and many other publications. I have worked on the contract level with several professional creative and writing organizations, including Words and Numbers and Neustadt Creative Marketing. I have helped professionals work on projects and books.
As teacher, I am a part time faculty member at Maryland Institute College of Art, where I work in the humanities section and have worked since 2005. There I have taught academic writing, creative fiction, short stories, as well as numerous courses in literature and intellectual history. I have also taught at Johns Hopkins, Towson University, Goucher College, and Carver High School for the Arts. I have also worked with students to prepare for verbal SATs.
I am available to teach as an individual instructor on a regular basis. I can help organize and edit papers, speeches, as well as teach. My per hour rate is $40/hr.
